Modiwark Fire & Rescue AC30 High-Voltage Proximity Detector
Fast, non-contact AC voltage detection for emergency response and professional electrical safety.
The Modiwark Fire & Rescue AC30 is an Australian-made, high-voltage proximity detector designed for fire and rescue personnel, linesmen, electricians, tree surgeons and other trained professionals working in or around potentially energised electrical environments.
Designed to quickly identify the presence of AC voltage, the AC30 provides an important preliminary safety check when assessing overhead and underground electrical systems, electrical infrastructure and other environments where potentially hazardous voltage may be present.
Compact, rugged and easy to operate, the AC30 provides both visual and audible indication of detected AC voltage, helping operators identify electrical hazards before approaching or commencing work.
Designed for Fire & Rescue Operations
For emergency responders, electrical hazards are not always immediately visible.
Damaged electrical infrastructure, fallen powerlines, vehicle collisions, structural incidents and other emergency situations can expose responders and bystanders to potentially dangerous electrical hazards.
The AC30 provides fire and rescue crews with a fast, non-contact method of detecting the presence of AC voltage, adding an important electrical hazard assessment capability to the responder's toolkit.
Non-Contact Voltage Detection
The AC30 detects AC voltage without requiring direct electrical contact, allowing trained operators to assess for the presence of an electrical field from a safer position.
With a manufacturer-stated sensing range from 20 V AC to 500 kV AC, the AC30 is suitable for a broad range of professional electrical hazard detection applications.
Two sensitivity settings—Less Sensitive and More Sensitive—allow the operator to adjust the detector to suit different operational environments and applications.
As the detected signal increases, the AC30 provides LED indication from a weak through to a strong signal, assisting the operator in assessing proximity to an energised source.
Automatic Start-Up Self-Test
Safety begins from the moment the AC30 is switched on.
At start-up, the unit automatically performs a built-in self-test to confirm that critical functions are operating correctly before the detector is used in the field.
A dedicated self-test button on the front display also allows operators to perform an additional function check at any time.
The self-test verifies key functions including:
- Audio indicator – confirms the audible warning system is operating
- Visual indicator – confirms the visual warning system is operational
- Detection circuitry – confirms the core electronic detection circuit is functioning
Regular self-testing throughout the working day is recommended in accordance with operating procedures.
Designed for Field Operations
The AC30 has been developed with practical field use in mind.
Large 15 mm diameter buttons facilitate operation while wearing gloves, while the rubber-mounted case provides additional protection against shock and everyday operational handling.
The secure battery compartment requires tool access, helping prevent accidental opening while the unit is in service.
At approximately 140 g without batteries, the AC30 is compact enough to be carried as part of a responder's personal equipment while remaining readily accessible when required.
